Campus File: Linked Personnel Panel (LPP)

Dataset

For the purpose of academic teaching at universities and research institutes, the IAB has generated absolutely anonymised survey data of the Linked Personnel Panel.

The LPP-Campus-File 1215_v1 consists of a 35 percent sample of the LPP establishment survey and a 36 percent sample of the LPP-employee panel interviews.

In the field of academic teaching, with both datasets different goals can be pursued. The data set is suitable for the introduction in handling complex data (data  management, data preparation, multilevel analyses, etc.) It could be applied for the teaching of certain analysis techniques especially analysing panel data

The essential differences between the LPP-CF 1215_v1 and the LPP survey data are:

  • a reduced number of observations (cf. chapter 3.1 FDZ-Datenreport 09/2017)
  • a minimum and maximum of employees interviews per establishment eine Mindest- und Maximalfallzahl an Beschäftigteninterviews pro Betrieb  (cf. chapter 3.1 FDZ-Datenreport 09/2017)
  • a reduced range of variables, partially modified variable names and modified identification numbers (cf. chapter 3.2, chapter 5 and 6,  FDZ-Datenreport 09/2017)
  • reduction of information, e.g. modification of categories, modification of the data on every level (cf. chapter 3.2, chapter 5 and 6,  FDZ-Datenreport 09/2017)

A description of the LPP-CF 1215_v1 can be found in the FDZ-Datenreport 09/2017 (pdf, only in German). For detailed documentations on LPP (FDZ Datenreporte, questionnaires etc.), which are also relevant for analyses with the campus files, please refer to working tools.

The LPP-CF 1215_v1 is available with English lables. Stata user can get access to the labels by using the command 'label language en'.

Advice for data usage

The campus files have been specifically designed for the purpose of academic teaching and serve only for vivid and practical training of survey, data management or various other data analysis techniques applied to different social research problems. Due to the utilized comprehensive anonymisation techniques the data must not be used for any statistical inference concerning the contents or for any kind of publication (including seminar papers or bachelor theses). With this data it is not possible to make generalised statements about individual characteristics or relationships between different characteristics.
Only the LPP survey data may be used for valid substantial analysis. Information on the application procedure is available in the category Data Access/On-site Use.

Data access and dissemination

The CFs can be downloaded free of charge. Before downloading the data, the users have to register with the FDZ and acknowledge the terms of use for the FDZ CFs. In a next step you will receive a password which is necessary to start the download process.
