Reducing the child penalty by incentivizing part-time work? Evidence from a child benefit reform in Germany
Project duration: 16.03.2021 to 31.12.2026
Abstract
Women experience negative labour market e ects after giving birth, which is known as the child penalty. This relationship is also found in countries that have child bene t and employment protection schemes in place. In this project we analyse whether ElterngeldPlus, a child bene t scheme that incentivises part-time work by the child bene t recipient, leads to a reduction in the child penalty in the short term (while child bene ts are received) and in the medium term (after expiration of the child bene t and the employment protection periods).
