Abstract

As part of a research collaboration, the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) Berlin, the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), and the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) are creating a new data product for the research community. Data from the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) will be linked with administrative data from the IAB's Integrated Employment Biographies (IEB) to enable innovative research opportunities for social and economic labor market research. To this end, the survey data from the regular surveys of the SOEP "Living in Germany" study (SOEP-Core) and the already released innovation modules (SOEP-IS) of respondents who have agreed to the data linkage will be linked with the IEB by the Research Data Centre (FDZ IAB). The research collaboration will work on selected research topics until the end of 2022 to test the quality of the linked data as well as to develop and implement possible data models for the research community. Starting in the fall of 2022, with financial support from SOEP at DIW Berlin, free data access for the research community is planned via the FDZ at IAB. The implementation of the data linkage within the research cooperation will be financially supported by the IZA.
