Abstract

The BMAS project "Evaluation of Existing Statutory Minimum Wage Regulations - Sector: Main Construction Industry" is being carried out in cooperation with the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (RWI) and the Institut für Sozialforschung und Gesellschaftspolitik (ISG). The focus is on five thematic areas. First, a sectoral overwiew of the construction industry. The focus of the area "Wages and Compliance" is on the impact of the minimum wage on wages and the wage structure in the construction industry. A main focus of the evaluation project is on the effects of the minimum wage on the employment opportunities of those affected. In addition, possible effects of the minimum wage on the protection of employees and on the competitiveness of companies or the entire sector are examined. The data basis is a linked employer-employee dataset created especially for this project, consisting of administrative data and an employee survey conducted within this project. Furthermore, qualitative expert interviews will be conducted. The project ends on 31 August 2011.
